Purine content of foodstuffs
Uric acid is produced from purines. Therefore a low-purine diet can combat uric acid buildup and gout. The following table gives you information on how much purines an individual food contains. At the same time, the tables contain a conversion of how much uric acid is produced from the purines.
Daily food intake should create no more than 300 mg of uric acid. Certain types of meat, innards, small fish and legumes are particularly rich in purines.
Although alcoholic beverages contain little or no purine, they inhibit uric acid excretion and thus increase the uric acid level.
